We took a hike up South America Pond Road near Island Pond. Snow is still on the roadsides but the swamp is beautiful despite no greenery yet.

This is the northern boreal forest, looking almost plush with the ground carpeted in moss.

This big fellow stood by the side of the road for a long time.

You can see the boggy forest he calls home.

This is the stuff that draws them to the roadside, salts in the muck.

You can just see the nubbins on his forehead, right below his ears.
